MOOR'S END - 16 & 17

Party comes upon a Carpenter's Cave of sorts, lots of woodworking tools, hand saws, stacks of 2x4s and ply wood, the frame of a chair, and a table top are against the east wall in the north section, and old wood chips are scattered about the east section of the south part. In the west portion which joins the north and south, sits an old, rusty table saw.  The party turns it on and it starts sputtering loudly, issuing an excruciatingly high pitched squeal. Though quickly turned off, two bandits come rushing in. One of them is killed, and the other, named Joey T, succumbs to questioning about the nearby bandit hideout, etc. Eventually, when the party enters a room full of statues, they let Joey T go.

The statues are mainly of goblins and dwarves frozen in running poses, perhaps running toward the small passage, and door, at the south side of the room. One of the party locates a bag with 300 sp hanging from one of the dwarf statue's hands. Mattie notices a tiny passage in the east section of the room that leads out into a hallway. Other than that the party spends much time debating the door to the south. They decide to skip it for now, afraid of what may lie on the other side. Other than the goblin & dwarf statues, in the middle of the room is noted a statue of a hooded figure.

The party heads north and locates a den where Joey T and his buddy may have been hanging out. Some fairly nice chairs of wood with upholstery, a divan, two tables, 75 cp spread about each, on one table some dice, on the other, a pack of cards. Also, on a small table in the west part of the room next to a recliner chair is a corn cob pipe and a Common translation of Count Falconer’s novel, As I Lay Writhing. Jin grabs the book and Gil grabs the pipe, quickly smoking the contents, feeling a bit high now, though the smoke had a repulsive odor.

Heading out they move NW to work on their map and come on four fire beetles. Backing up, they use the cave & the den to their advantage battle-tactic-wise, victorious. They move east, entering another large room, coming upon two Bugbears, scarfing food around a table. A fight breaks out, and though the party has a bit of trouble with the male, the bugbears are not a match for such a large party. The party sets about searching the large room.

MOOR'S END - 14 & 15

So at 3:00 AM the party returns to the Inn of the Forgotten Worm where they get the best sleep they can before setting out for the Caves in the morning, a return to their quest in obtaining the diamond spider relic which Mattie the Mournful of the Church of the White Widow has told them a pack of bandits stole during a ceremony at the church.

Jin visits the grave of his brother on the way, wood elves are encountered in a cave by a pool and join the party, the statue of a rat god is seen in a clearing, a large, sleeping wolf is bypassed, a cave of bone examined, a gelatinous cube burned into ash, a pack of giant rats sliced up...

New party member, Dafydd, elvish magic-user from Glowing Pines, elaborates:

17th hummingbird

The halfling came up to save me from the bartender, i’m grateful but concerned, talkative folk always unnerve me. Turns out they did indeed venture into this library, but it seems they already looted the place. They seem to be venturing into the nearby caverns i’ve heard that there is something magical about these caverns perhaps it would be beneficial to join them. Also i want to leave town for awhile, i don’t know if that elf is from Glowing Pines or not, but he seems familiar.

We entered into the caves and ran into a group of wood elves. I was cautious at first, but it seems they don’t know me. Their leader Helium the Blue seems an honest fellow. I was thrust into the role of translator for the band of adventurers. I care not for this spider of the church, but magical caverns and an evil rising in the north-east are interesting.

A group of berserkers came upon us. We almost had a fight, but it seems one of their party had joined my new compatriots and died, I hope my fate will be different. We keep finding old potato sacks; it is most curious.

We found a strange statue of a rat-god of some sort. I for one am not into the study of the gods, but it is interesting nonetheless.

We came across some sort of gelatinous monstrosity. My new compatriots are suicidal, they wanted to fight it for treasure! We were lucky to defeat it. We were also lucky that group of orcs that stumbled by was smaller than our group. Among the loot we found three rings, a shield, a hammer and a strange wooden box. I also found a bone flute of some sort.

The wood elves and I were leading the group when we were attacked by giant rats. At first we were too surprised to engage effectively, but after a moment we felled one and all of the beasties. I was bitten quite efficiently, I believe I need a moment of rest. I am beginning to feel that this group may get me killed after all. Won’t that please the citizens of Glowing Pines.

And lastly, some inspired prose from Jinshen the Monk:

MOOR'S END - 13

[b/c of my Holmentzer obsession, session reports will be abbreviated for a bit; I'm backed up, here's to gettin' closer]

Though most of the party made it out of the library, Link leapt to his death on trap spikes and Clone was imploded on impact. I think someone even made it out w/ a book.

MOOR'S END - 11 & 12

After Jin's discovery of the body in the pit trap, the party decides to return to the "computer" room to pose more questions. Guerrand decides to take the reigns again, & begins typing in more questions as Grego & Gileegan crowd around. Guerrand begins typing:

> Where is "Dark Genesis of the Great Church's Underside"?
> DOWN THE STAIRS
> How many stairs are in this library?
> TWO
> Where are the stairs in this library?
> IT WILL COST YOU
> What will the stairs cost me?
> YOUR WORD
> My word to do what?
> THE WORDS OF YOUR NAME, DO YOU SEE A DRAWER BELOW?

Gileegan locates the drawer & pulls from it an opened book, as well as a feathertip & ink, they sit the to the side of the computer on the desk; Gil examines the pages the book is open to, a list of names. The last name on the list: Vincent Gozer.

The party talks amongst themselves, then Guerrand goes back to typing:

> What happened to Vincent Gozer?
> I TRIED TO STEAL
> What happens to thieves from the library?
> EVERYONE IS A THIEF
> What will happen if I take "Dark Genesis of the Great Church's Underside" from this library?
> YOU CANNOT REMOVE IT, NOT WITHOUT MAGIC
> How do I remove it with magic?
> THAT IS FOR YOU TO DECIDE
> Can I borrow "Dark Genesis of the Great Church's Underside"?
> THERE IS NO BORROWING IN THE LIBRARY OF KARVU
> Can "Dark Genesis of the Great Church's Underside" be destroyed?
> AS MOST THINGS IN THIS WORLD, IT IS PERHAPS POSSIBLE
> What did Vincent Gozer steal?
> IT WAS A TOME TITLED "THE RAINBOW OF THE ENCHANTED WASTE"
> Was Vincent Gozer killed by spikes?
> YES, THE DEATH OF A SCOUNDREL
> What happens if we return "The Rainbow Flowers of the Enchanted Waste" to the shelves?
> THAT MAY BE A GOOD QUESTION
> When I sign my name, what do I agree to?
> I CANNOT TELL YOU THAT

The party discusses what to do now & Gil is eager to get on w/ the quest & agrees to sign his name to the book, if Grego agrees to pay him 1000 gp when all is said & done. Due to the weight of the task in regard to his allegiance to & mission for the Great Church, Grego agrees that if Gil signs his name to the book, he will obtain the gold from the church in payment, when all is said & done, provided they obtain book, etc. Gil signs his name to the book & returns it to the drawer & closes it. Guerrand begins typing:

> You have your word.
> THE SECOND STAIR IS AT THE END OF THE HALL OPPOSITE WHERE THE OTHER STAIR, LOOK CAREFULLY
> Can I free Vincent Gozer?
> I DO NOT KNOW, BUT BE CAREFUL

The party takes leave of the Scriptorium & computer, heading to the end of the hallway to the SW. Grego, in his excitement over the newfound info, & Gil's agreement to sign the book, becomes a bit giddy, speaking of returning after a successful mission, & lets roll off his tongue his desire to pass back through the way of Duck Hill, a halfling haven to the north, where he is quite fond of the Wrestling Halfling Ladies found there. He speaks of he & Guerrand watching a show on the way to Moor's End, in which the Wrestler Halfling Ladies of Duck Hill covered themselves in Stirge Oil. "Yes, bathed in stirge oil," reminisced Grego, grinning, "quite the sight. Have you ever been to Duck Hill? Many of your kind there." Gil seemed mostly interested in the Stirge Oil, rather than the halfling wrestler ladies. Realizing perhaps he had overstepped some boundary, Grego cut talk of the ladies & red-faced, became serious once more as they neared the end of the corridor & began peering around for anything odd. Sure enough, after just about ten minutes, the party located a secret door within the woodwork, & pushed it back to reveal a small entrance room which led to a staircase down.
Slowly, & carefully, the party descends the stair, to find a fairly well-lit room, a small, private library w/ books from floor to ceiling on north & south walls. There are chairs & tables about, as well as some prominent cracks in the west wall, which allows cool air to sneak in. But most eye-catching, is an 8' horned being, w/ cloven hooves, what the party recognizes as a demon. The demon turns to them, raises one hand which glows for a brief moment w/ fire, then turns back to the book in his other hand, flipping through it. As the party watches, they see that it takes the demon about a minute or so to work through one book, then the demon places it back on the shelf, & reads another, etc. As the demon seems unconcerned w/ the party, they begin scouring the shelves. Within about twenty minutes, the demon still engrossed in reading, & unconcerned w/ the party, they sure enough locate a book titled Dark Genesis of the Great Church's Underside. Grego is ecstatic, & verifies the title & contents before tucking it away w/ his belongings. Grego also becomes interested in the cracks in the wall, but can't make out anything past them, the wall too thick, except for the trickle of air. The party decides to exit the private library & return to the main library, talk turning to returning Rainbow Flowers, freeing Vincent Gozer, or destroying Dark Genesis. As they debate the best option, passing back into the hallway, Jin somehow slams into the secret door as it is closing, & bloodies his nose; they continue on down the hallway wrapping around, when they near the other secret passage back into the library they see two Brain Moles headed their way.

After the Brain Moles seem most interested in circling around Renfro, they are quickly killed by the others. Staying in the hallway, & the discussing how to perhaps destroy Dark Genesis, the party decides not to go back into the main library, but to return to the room w/ the demon, Gileegan now wishing to speak w/ the demon & ask him about Vincent Gozer, & perhaps what his signing the book in the Scriptorium could mean.
Re-entering the private library, the demon once again seems unconcerned w/ the party's presence. Gileegan walks over & tries speaking w/ it. Interrupted, & perhaps replying, the demon turns & screams/grunts some unintelligible garble @ Gil, looking down upon him, then begins devouring another book. Not pleased w/ the result, Guerrand decides to don the Helm of Telepathy & try to communicate w/ the demon. He finds he is unable to communicate outwardly, but while focusing on the demon, an extreme amount of information begins pouring into his brain, as the demon flips through pages, Guerrand is able to withstand the onslaught of info, however, is unable to retain any of the actual information. Next, Gil puts on the Helm, attempts the same, & has the same result. There is discussion of letting the demon read Dark Genesis, but both Grego & Guerrand think that an extremely risky idea. Gil thinks they should try writing something down, a note of their questions, & hand it to the demon for it to read. The party decides to return to the Scriptorium to get some writing tools, etc.

When they get back to the private library, an excited Gil, writes down his questions & hands them to the demon, while again donning the Helm. This time, after unleashing another torrent of scream/grunt/cry, the demon lifts its hands, drops the book, & casts a spell onto Gil, who suddenly finds the Helm popping from his head as he becomes enlarged. The demon does not heed the paper that Gil gives him & just lets it fall as he turns back to reading another large tome. Frustrated, Jin steps up & tries speaking w/ the demon again, then pulls a book from the shelf titled Monkey Trumpets, he then hands it to the demon & dons the fallen Helm, focusing... As the torrent of info begins to flow through his skull he cannot move, but when all is done, he is not able to retain anything about the book... The party leaves the private library once again, debating their next move.

As they head back, about halfway down the main corridor, they find themselves being rushed by what look to be fairly large rabbits, on the run, made of what looks to be dust: Dust Bunnies. A battle ensues, Guerrand & Link soon find themselves hampered w/ fits of serious sneezing, while Clone the Berserker cuts through one of the bunnies w/ his axe, to find that now there are two. The party is able to defeat the Dust Bunnies w/o much more trouble, as piles of dust trickle & bend into the wind, though Guerrand did take 4 damage from two attacks, the worst being a dust bunny bite @ the neck. He & Link stop sneezing & the party begins to regroup.

MOOR'S END - 10

So confused, the party decided to return to the Scriptorium, where among boxes of parchment, vellum & paper, quill pens, dried up ink-wells, etc. upon desk in back corner sat the "computer". On the way there was a bit of a debate as to whether Grego could give up the name of the book he & Guerrand were looking for. Though Grego held out a while, he finally told the name to Guerrand, which was Dark Genesis of the Great Church's Underside. Over & over, he reiterated to Guerrand why it was crucial they destroy this heretical tome, though Guerrand didnt seem to need much convincing, he understood, & chose to approach the computer w/ further commands & questioning, as the others were also speaking of the possibility of the stairs being under the floor where Gileegan had noticed a crack in the stone floor when they first came in... The computer exchange was like this:

>How do I open the floor in the main hall?
>WHAT IS MAIN HALL?
>How do I open the floor?
>WITH A DOOR
>How do I open the door in the floor?
>DOORS IN THE FLOOR USUALLY OPEN THEMSELVES
>Where is the key for the door in the floor?
>IN YOUR FOOT
>Open the door in the floor.
>DOES NOT COMPUTE
>What is the meaning of life? Is that you, God?
>ONES AND ZEROS
>Who built you?
>VINCENT GOZER, I AM
>How old are you?
>DUE TO PASSING THRU, TIS IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPUTE

The party decided to move back out through the library & back to the Entrance Tunnel where Gil had noticed the crack in the floor. After a bit of close examination & persistence, Gil is able to confirm that what they have here looks to be a panel of stone floor that will drop. It is Jin who gently steps upon it, holding a sturdy rope, able to make it lower & then slide back to reveal a deep pit w/ many spikes. Jin is lowered down as they hold a lantern above to find a decomposing body crunched down into the spikes w/ a book in the cruck. Jin pukes.
Recovering, Jin nimbly looks about the body, noticing the book, plus a backpack, as well as a glint of light below the hood over the dead man's head...Suddenly, 5 Giant Dust Mites appear from below, moving @ Jin. In a miraculous twist of feat, Jin is able to grab the book, hoist up on the rope, across the pit, grab both the pack & the metal item which turns out to be helm of some sort, & then climb the wall a bit as the others pulled him up on the rope.

Once safe, they see the book is titled Rainbow Flowers of the Enchanted Waste & open the backpack to find two potions, an X marks the spot map, 88 gp & 38 sp, as well as the Helm. It is a strange looking helmet that appears to go on the back of one's head. Guerrand puts it on, & looking first @ Grego, then around the room, he is able to hear everyone's thoughts, whomever he is focusing upon...

MOOR'S END - 8 & 9

The party rests the night @ the Forgotten Worm, then wakes early for adventure. They head next door to Oogy's Curiosity Shop, where they buy some supplies, as well as quiz Oogy about the scholar who apparently lives here in Moor's End. Oogy proves to be a wealth of info & directs them to where they can find the scholar's "library". The scholar's name is Karvu Naudra, & Oogy says no one has seen him for a few months. Grego Flunk, curate of the Great Church, seems pleased w/ this information & along w/ the party, forges forward.

It is around 8:30 AM when they see the stone structure back from the road, mostly hidden by surrounding alder trees. The entrance is like the opening of a cave, & looks to go back for some distance; after some speculation, the party enters, moving down the corridor, noticing the suddenly polished marble floor & stone walls paneled w/ dark, exotic wood. Though Gileegan, hobbit thief, does notice what looks to be a uniform crack in the marble floor, he isnt able to determine exactly what it is, & as half the party has successfully passed it w/ no problem, they move on into a small semi-circular room w/ two iron-bound wooden doors carved w/ scenes from both fiction & history, battles, scientific achievements, magicians, etc. The doors open easily & the party funnels into a room of similar make. There is a bowl on a stone pedestal, & as the party nears it, some passing, a reddish-black liquid swirls inside & a magic mouth appears, saying, "Present what you wish to borrow, & place your hand within to pay for privilege." The party discusses what this may mean, & then pushes through the next set of double doors after noticing, but not being able to read, a magical script above them.

As the party enters the next chamber, they see it is a large, circular, high-ceilinged room padded w/ 20' high bookcases, books & scroll cases about the walls. Then suddenly, their lantern goes out. Also, though they are all speaking, they dont realize they cannot hear one another until one of them, speaking of "relighting" the lantern, on the speaking of "light", small orbs up near the ceiling of the chamber become dimly lit, then growing in luminescence until the room is fairly bright. The party goes about inspecting the shelves of books.
After just a cursory glance, Grego is convinced the book he is looking for is not in the room. The others, however, all seem to find something to be interested in, if just for a little while. Take for instance Jin, who peruses the section of Puppetry, & finds a book titled, Master of the Puppets: Making Men Your Puppets. Jin starts to shove the book into his bag, but next thing he knows is struck by something w/ extreme force, crashing into him from above. He drops the book, after taking 1 damage. Guerrand on the other side of the room finds interest in a volume titled How to Change a White Widow into Black, and appears, like other books in the section, concerned w/ the Cult of the Black Widow. Though he wishes to consult the book further, he leaves it here for now. Jin, on the other hand, decides that to "check the book out" he will need to go into the room w/ the bowl. Therefore, he goes next door, puts his hand in the bowl, & holds up Master of the Puppets. Next thing he knows, he feels drained of another HP, as well as 1 INT point. He seems a bit overwhelmed by the experience, & not so pleased w/ this library so far, sounding off comments like, "I go to libraries to gain knowledge, not lose it." His rant becomes silent again when he walks into the main reading chamber. It is @ that moment that Renfro, who was first studying the section on Planar Exploration, has crossed the room, now looking @ the books on Flowers, when he notices a book that seems out of place, titled, Seven Gateways to Inner Knowledge. He tries to remove the book, but it seems attached to something, & when replacing it, something snaps & a section of the bookcase swings open to reveal a hallway behind.

The party moves into the hallway & sees that it is a curving passage that follows the circular wall of the reading room. Noticing various doors on the eastside, they travel all the way down the passage until it ends & a door is on what is now the west wall. Hearing nothing, they bust into what appears to be a laboratory of sorts, several long tables covered w/ beakers, alembics & other alchemical equipment. They also notice several large cracks in the west wall, in the stone, which allow cool air to faintly filter through. As the party "lights" the room, & inspects closer, they notice a number of large, glass jars upon a table of the north wall containing various specimens suspended in liquid. On a nearby table are a number of thick opened books. Both books are thick bestiaries & are turned to pages detailing "Brain Moles" --- after seeing this, it seems clear that two of the jars contain Brain Moles, & after messing w/ the jars, it appears that one is alive, though the other dead. Next to the books lies a crumbling treatise about the "training & experimental use of Brainworms to aid exploration." Clearly, the other jar contains six Brainworms. The party decides to open the jar of Brainworms, & they hold one up next to Link, who is a bit frightful when the worm jumps to his ear, slides inside & disappears, his face wrenching as if hit by terrible blow, then shaking his head & standing straight up as if forgetting the incident.
After this hasty action, focus turns on the books & treatise upon the tables once more. The party learns from the bestiaries about how Brain Moles bore into psionic & magical energy. Renfro also reads enough of the treatise on Brainworms to notice magical writings about, & surmises that w/ much study, this treatise could teach one to train Brainworms. Next thing they know, Guerrand has moved the jars, picks up a table & slams it into a crack in the west wall. A large chip falls from the wall, however, nothing is seen through the crack as it weaves left & right through the stone, presumably. The party decides to exit the room, & Renfro grabs the treatise. They walk out into the curved corridor & move north to the next door on their left, where they listen, hearing nothing, then push through.

Here they find a sparse living chamber, just a single bed, night-stand dresser, table, chair, & small hearth. First, Gileegan checks out the dresser & realizes the drawer is trapped, though when he tries to unlock or disarm the trap, he is not able. Next thing, the drawer is on its side & gets pounded by Guerrand & Clone. This busts one of the sides to where Gil can see into the side of the drawer, noticing the mechanics of a poison dart trap & disarming it. They then bash it down again to open it. Inside is found a small, green box holding a Monocle. Also, there is a golden locket which contains the faded portrait of a youngish woman, next to a handsized book of handwritten, trashy poems. When Guerrand reads one of the poems aloud, Grego shuts him up quickly, irritated. Gil grabs the book & stashes it away in his belongings.

It is then that Guerrand looks to the bed, "I think there's something under there," he says. He then kneels & looks under the bed. Something strange begins to happen within the room. The sound of rain, & from under the bed, sand, as if blown up from below, begins forming into two Sandmen on each side of the bed. Most everyone finds themselves groping for the floor & wall, falling asleep, except for Guerrand, Link & Gil. Both Guerrand & Link slash into the beings, but watch as their weapons simply move through the sand like a finger, the sand returning... Before long they are both asleep. Gil who fired a missing cross bow shot, bolts out the door & up the corridor a bit. A few mins later, he moves back to the room, looks in, sees that the Sandmen are gone, though everyone is asleep, some snoring, he moves into the room & shuts the door.

It's roughly 30 mins later when Gil is able to roust the others from sleep, & coming to Guerrand remembering a dream of slow motion, not being able to move correctly, finds himself in a slow daze, the party groups up when Guerrand says, "I wanna look under the bed again," and kneeling looks under, when suddenly, the same thing happens, the two Sandmen funnels up into the air, & folks start nodding out, & again Gil is able to get outside into the corridor, this time noticing 3 Brain Moles scurrying his way. He moves back into the room, everyone is asleep, & the Sandmen are gone. He closes the door, waits upon the others to roast. This time Guerrand wakes speaking of a fascinating dream of Utopia, everything was grand, he's ready to go, face the world... At this time 3 Giant Dust Mites come dropping from the cracks in the walls, & are surprised by the party. Gil makes them quick meat. Everyone rallies & they move out into the corridor & continue north, stopping @ the next door, which is directly north...no sounds, they bust in to find a Scriptorium. A small chamber w/  several writing desks, a bunch of boxes, plus a small chest. Also, in the NE corner is a machine of some sort, w/ a keyboard showing common letters. The party opens one of the boxes which is full of parchment. The chest they open has a number of compartments, & all said, contains 5 gp of gold dust & 5 gp of gold leaf. The party circles around the computer & first, Guerrand types a few letters into it, but nothing happens. There is a white, sideways triangle blinking atop a black screen. Gil suggests that Grego type in the name of the book he is looking for. Grego, paranoid, does so, hits enter, & the next line reads, "down the stairs". Grego quickly finds his way to delete what was previously typed, though Gil is able to spy the word Genesis among about three to five other words regarding the title of the book Grego typed in. Grego, now paranoid a bit, groups the party together & preforms a Bless spell, saying he felt they would soon need it.

The party moves back into the corridor & moves to the next door to the SE where they locate a Bookbindery. Though the equipment appears to have been used recently, there is no one there. Among the looms, racks & equipment tables, they spot two huge leatherbound volumes ornamented w/ semi-precious stones & gold leaf, empty of writing. Clone puts them in his bag. Gileegan searches the north wall & locates a hidden panel holding a cache of semi-precious stones & two boxes  w/ gold dust & leaf respectively. There is a door on the south wall. The party moves through the south door, where they comes upon some stairs leading downward & ultimately into what seems to be a Storeroom. Many boxes stacked about. The first box looked into contains paper. Gil peering over a few of the boxes, notices a number of Giant Silverfish behind. Signalling to others, he is able to dispense of one easily, & then the others are destroyed in tandem. Among these boxes of book leather & bondery materials, the party is confused.

MOOR'S END - 6 & 7

The party comes up on Clone the Berserker, worshipper of Thor, who's sitting around a small flame, apparently he has lost his party & been traveling for weeks through these caves from Kush, trying to find Furthermoor, he asks if there's anyway the party can help him find the eastern exit... He joins the party & they indeed wrap around a bit, find familiar territory, as well as 4 kobolds who are not much of a match for them, 3 killed easily & one fleeing... On the kobold bodies are found 5 gp, 4 sp & a scrap of paper w/ something in kobold written upon it. The party cannot read the paper. Jin, inspecting his map, feels he now can place the exit, & sure enough, around 8 PM, the party is exiting the caves to the west of Moor's End... Clone cannot believe how close he was... Hope swells within him, & he is grateful to the party. He decides to follow them to the Inn of the Forgotten Worm. Mattie takes leave of the party, returning to the Church of the White Widow after one more time reminding the party of what it is she & her church need from them, if they are able (the diamond studded spider relic that may or may not have magical properties, stolen by bandits during one of their ceremonies).

At 8:30 PM the party enters the Inn of the Forgotten Worm to find 12 other folks around the room, some @ the bar, some @ tables, etc. One man in particular, a human wearing a deerstalker cap, a black cape of sorts, smoking a long cigarette, steps from a table where two others sit, two male half-elves. The man introduces himself as Apricot Shandly from Debthaven & within seconds of introduction, is grilling the party about what they know in regard to Gil Kruger the Blacksmith's house going up in flames. Apricot has been hired for a sizable sum to investigate as there was an important item regarding the town's safety that was stored there, & apparently, it is nowhere to be found among the ashes. Gileegan takes center stage in dealing w/ Apricot, & as the conversation gets heated, Renfro slips away & moves through the door into the common sleeping room where he removes Delilah (Gil's two-handed sword) from under his bed & hides it under the mattress of one of the vacant beds across the room. On Renfro's return, Apricot is demanding a search of the party's belongings.

Gileegan refuses & begins working the room to build support for his views on the matter, which brings the party in contact w/ a few other notables. One lady halfing @ the bar, Lo Leland, from Hood's Hollow, who is here on business delivering kegs of Leland Lager to the inn. Then, @ the other large table in the room, sits a cleric of the Great Church named Grego Flunk, he is a haughty individual, older, who doesnt think much of the Church of the White Widow when the topic arises. With Grego, is a paladin of the Great Church, named Guerrand. Gil takes an interest in Guerrand given his youth & strength & a long conversation ensues as the voting commences on whether the detective should be able to search the party's belongings. The entire bar votes & it comes to an equal split. It is then, put on chance, & the party comes out victorious, Apricot Shandly not able to search their things in the other room. This brings Gil joy & he toasts the room. During this celebration, Oogy of the Curiosity Shop, who has been @ the bar, comes over to show the party an item he just acquired. It appears he needs more $ for drinks, therefore offers to sell them the "Shimmering Sand" for 20 gp. They agree to the deal. It apparently will increase the reach of sleep spells.
Lastly, as mentioned, a long conversation takes place between Gileegan & Guerrand, the young paladin. Gil is urging the paladin to join up w/ their cause; however, Guerrand is steadfast in his desire to aid Grego in their current quest for the Great Church. With an eloquent soapbox speech, Gileegan just about convinces the paladin to consider the plight of their party... But one catch: the party must first aid he & Grego in locating a specific book, an evil book which Grego says must be burned. Their belief is that a scholar, here in Moor's End, has this book. Guerrand tells Gileegan that if they can help them destroy this book, he is willing to join their quest to help the local church.

MOOR'S END - 4 & 5

In which the party continues w/o Farley, experience more bubbles & fight Bandits, Orcs & Goblins...  Two separate staircases are located...  Rest is taken & new bubbles are inspected & realized...  Mapping is done, a secret room is located w/ green glowing spectacles on a table...

PARTY CAST:
Gileegan, hobbit thief - MN
Jin the Cautious, monk - RM
Renfro the Regarded, magic-user - JT
Mattie the Mournful, cleric of the White Widow - NPC
Link, neanderthal - NPC
Ylgu Cro, charmed orc - NPC

After Farley's request for map w/ payment & exit, the party took the other scrap of map they had & started anew. First though they inspected the room the skeletons had flooded from. They found 100 sp in a bag among some bones. When they passed back through the door, they saw that more bubbles had appeared in the room. Skirting the wall, they moved to the NW passage from the room. There Gileegan through a rock & burst one of the bubbles which on bursting brought a howl from Mattie.

The party continued NW wrapping around coming across a few bandits which they dispersed of fairly easily, killing one, the others fleeing SW ---- upon the dead was found a brown bean w/ red dots & 33 gp; there was a door ahead on the NE wall, they busted in, surprised three sleeping orcs, killed two & charmed one. Link took a bit of damage. Locating a number of bags of coin from the orcs, who seemed to be lookouts of some sort in their attire, the party took in 500 sp & 60 gp.

Moving SW & then into a mazey section, the party located two separate staircases, & looking down one saw two goblins coming up... The party took out one of the gobs coming up the stairs & found 9 pp, 18 gp, 5 sp & a goblin book of beat poetry that Jin was able to read the title as "Nightscreams & Whispered Curses" by Reom Ferfak. The party decided to return to the room where they found the orcs to get some rest as it was about 2:00 AM. They moved one of the dead orcs out the door & propped them up w/ things to make them look like guard outside the door, "Weekend @ Bernie's" style.
The party slept well, & after the prev night's deep discussion w/ Gil, Mattie prayed a bit for Cure Light Wounds. She had reminded Gil of their mission & agreed to heal folks, but was worried about healing an orc, versus others, given her experience. The party moved back to the bubble room, where first, Renfro inspected the bubbles, noticing one that floated close to him has Ylgu Cro's reflection in it. He then noticed others that barely missed him had other of the party in reflection. They decided to skirt the walls & move to the NE corridor... On the way, Link had a bubble pop upon him which made him scream, then a bubble darted & popped on Renfro's head which made Mattie scream... They found the NE corridor & funneled in...

From that point they traveled mainly SE, working on mapping, found a cavern room where Jin & Mattie located a secret door where they found a pair of spectacles glowing green. Renfro put them on & his face charred, burned, around the nose area & took damage, he tossed them away. The green was gone. Other tried them on but nothing happened. They moved out of that room & whipping around found themselves back in the chalk room, wetn back north, then evading a few unresponsive Giant Toads, they moved into a room where Jin, outfront, a cavernous room, saw a person across the room around a flame of some sort, someone in armor w/ a helmet w/ horns on it...

MOOR'S END - 3

In which respects are paid to Devedos @ the Church of the White Widow - Locals of Moor's End take notice of Kruger's burning shop - The party returns to the Caves at sundown...

PARTY CAST:
Gileegan, hobbit thief - MN
Jin the Cautious, monk - RM
Farley, dwarf fighter - MF
Renfro the Regarded, magic-user - MIA
Mattie the Mournful, cleric of the White Widow - NPC
Link, neanderthal - NPC

ENCOUNTERED NON-PARTY NPCs:
Brother Lennox - Church of the White Widow
Random townsfolk on street

Feeling a ripple in the Order of the Guiding Star, Jin the Cautious arrives in Moor's End just in time to help Gileegan, Renfro, Mattie & Link transport & bury their friend Devedos @ the Church of the White Widow. Brother Lennox performs the ceremony & the party donates 30 gold to the church. It is a solemn affair. So much so that Gileegan is moved to remind the party why they were first called here: to help the church locate the diamond spider that was stolen & moved into the caves @ the edge of the moor. After the ceremony the party walks for a bit down the strip of town, many townsfolk coming out & watching the smoke envelope Kruger's shop. The party asks one man what is going on, & sure enough, he simply confirms the rumor that Kruger's place is up in flames, etc. Renfro assures the party that he has discretely hidden Delilah (Kruger's two-handed sword) under a bed in the common room of the Forgotten Worm Inn. As darkness descends, the party decides to return to the caves. Jin wishes they had a fighter among them, & as if the Guiding Star was listening, the Furthermoor Adventure Express (FAE) screeches up & out tumbles Farley the Dwarf, eager to join the party for a crawl.
It's around 8 PM by the time Mattie is locating the secret entrance to the cave, the party moves into the narrow cave single file, Link, Farley, Jin, Renfro, Mattie w/ lantern, & Gileegan in back. After a bit of weaving through narrow cave passages, they come to a dead end, where they search around for a good thirty minutes, but notice nothing, they then search the walls as they backtrack when Link signals back that something is there ahead of them...  A goblin has turned around, walking away from them.  Gilleegan pushes through & sneaks after the goblin & backstabs it, easily taking it down. He searches the body to locate a small pouch holding 11 sp & 1 gp, also in the pouch is a scrap of paper w/ something in goblin written on it. Jin reads the note: MARKET, 16TH DAY, BEFORE SUN, OUTSIDE CAVES - the party backtracks a bit more then moving south & coming to the room they previously fought the giant rats, the opened chest on the ground.  They are reminded of Devedos.  They pass the room & move west where they come into a circular room, about 15' in diameter, cave room w/ a large cone of white rock in the middle of the room w/ smooth rounded bottom. Gilleegan pushes the rock & it teeters a bit, then sways & then stops back in original position. Farley pushes the rock harder, noticing that it is chalk.  W/ the harder push, when tottering, the base reveals a gap below where they notice something shiny. They use Farley's crowbar to hold the chalk over to where they are able to pull 300 sp & 30 gp from below. Farley chips off some sizable pieces from the top. Others follow suit. Farley crushes some into a dust & puts it in a pouch. The party moves on, traveling west, the cave corridor growing a touch wider, they come into another similar cave room, about 15' in diameter. There is a pool of dark liquid in the western third of the room, surrounded by a thin strip of cave. Jin probes the water w/ his staff, & about 2-3' down the staff pushes into something. He tries jiggering it out, but nothing gives. He decides to simply step into the water & reach down for it. He pulls up two bags filled w/ silver, 250 sp each. The party redistributes the silver from the soaked bags & decides to move into the northern passage which narrows & winds a bit until it narrows to almost 2 feet wide & then opens into a fairly massive, compared to what they have seen up to this point. Also, this room, though still "cavey" shows signs of construction/manipulation. It is a sizable room, about 30' wide in places. Two passages lead from the room, to the NE & NW, & between these passages are two closed door on the NW wall. Also, as the party moves into the room, they notice about 20 large, clear bubbles floating about the room, moving slowly & erratically. Farley moves to one of the bubbles & pops it w/ his rope. Nothing seems to happen, the bubble just disappears w/ little noise or effect. Farley then goes about whipping around half the room until only about ten bubbles remain. Moving closer to the doors, he finishes off the rest of the curious bubbles & the party focuses on one of the wooden doors that is stuck shut. After numerous tries, Jin does a cartwheel & kicks the door open. They move into a narrow cave passage & into a small 10' cave room beyond where lining the walls & ceiling is a strange, silver fuzzy growth of some sort. Farley scrapes @ the growth w/ his crowbar & suddenly finds himself holding a solid, silver crowbar. For the next thirty or forty minutes, the party goes crazy on turning various items to silver & while this is going on, Farley takes watch down the opening when he notices a Giant Gecko slithering in he throws his electrical spear, kills the Gecko, then chops its head off & throws it @ the silver mold therefore now having a solid, silver Giant Gecko head. W/ all their new silvery stuff, the party moves back out into the large room & then goes to work on the other door. Farley busts the door in & doing so hears some rattling & then sees a skeleton w/ a sword quickly moving his way down a narrow passage. He holds his shield up & tries to keep the skeleton at bay but takes one stab, 3 damage, in doing so. The party then, one-by-one takes turns as they kill one skeleton @ a time, everyone crucial, Gil, Jin, Link, even Mattie, until theyve destroyed 4 of them, Farley doing in the last, removes its skull from the rest of the bones & takes it into the silver room & turns it to silver. In the main room, Jin & Gilleegan relax & split one of the mushroom caps that Devedos found in the Jungle Room...

MOOR'S END - 1

[Sorry for the "out of order" here, but finally, here is Mattie's angle on the FAE party's entrance & first day/night in Moor's End]

When they sent out the signal, I wasnt sure who to expect, or exactly how soon, but it was only a few hours until the Furthermoor Adventure Express (FAE) could be seen descending & then gently lighting on the field near the Church, there it pulled up w/ an exhausted Neanderthal hanging by an arm @ its side, which was quite a surprise to the Thief & Monk as they stepped from the conveyance.  The hobbit thief, was named Gileegan, & seemed the questionable sort, while the monk, Devedos, appeared much more respectable. I consulted them about why they had been signaled here, as a recent bandit attack during a procession, had claimed a priceless item from the Church, a foot long, diamond encrusted white widow which most likely is now being transfered through the caves west of Moor's End to potentially end up in the wrong hands. Devedos questioned his involvement, concerned that risking lives for a material possession such as this jewel, was not something he cared to be a part of, but then I explained to him the import: that this was not any ordinary jewel, that it also has magical properties which wielded by the wrong hands, could potentially mean not only the destruction of the Church of the White Widow, but also something much darker in the long run... Devedos agreed this was something the Order of the Guiding Star should be concerned w/ as well, & of course the Thief was ready to get his hands on the diamond spider when I first mentioned it. They asked if I cared to join them, I said I would if I would actually be of help, but first they wished to walk down into Moor's End to purchase armor for their Neanderthal friend they call Link, as well as other general adventuring products therefore I tell them about Oogy's Curiosity Shop that also carries adventuring supplies.
Link took to some leather armor his friends purchased & they bought some other things I wasnt really paying attention. Oogy tried selling them some jacks, as well as something he was calling an Orc Grenade, I felt sick when he said what was in it, they wanted to visit the Forgotten Worm Inn stopped in & they spoke w/ a magic-user @ the bar named Renfro the Regarded. He told us a story of how as a youngster in Furthermoor City he had been observing a battle between two powerful wizards in the street & been struck by a bolt from a Staff of Withering, therefore only 11, suddenly looked 21, & also, began his interest in magic. He also mentioned to the others that he'd heard about a barber in town that had a hair ointment that would increase one's strength. Gilleegan pointed out they were about out of money, so talk turned to venturing to the caves. Renfro was interested in joining us. We left for the Caves, my hopes for locating the Diamond Spider of the Church of the White Widow.

It was around 3 PM as I showed them the secret entrance I knew into the caves, though I had never been inside myself. Naturally, the cave was extremely dark, & narrow, a little less than five feet across, & maybe about eight feet high. Gileegan decided to lead out front w/ his lantern, Link, Devedos, me, then Renfro... The entrance was slow going when after a bit we cut south & then found ourselves rapping around in this thin tunnel until finally I had to stop b/c everything slowed; next thing I knew I heard something terrible, a high pitched scream of some sort & Gileegan was moaning, I was frightened, Renfro moved past me, but then I hastened, another nasty nashing sound & Gileegan clearly hurt, I began to worry, but then I could hear Devedos grunting & a gnarly sound from something... Then I heard Renfro chanting & could see his hands moving in the shadows of Gileegan's dropped lantern & suddenly the screeching of the Giant Rats was no more & a nasty snoring could be heard echoing. We moved into the room & Devedos, after stacking the remaining rats & doing something I had to turn away from. You hear of these Giant Rats, but seeing them is another thing; I hate any living thing to lose its life, but strangely, I felt nothing. Devedos took Gileegan's lantern & began moving around the cave room, examining the walls... In the back of the room, about 10 feet up in a small hole in the rock wall could be seen a small chest. Devedos climbed up the wall & w/ amazing skill both popped the chest out of the hole & then landed on his feet to catch it before it hit the ground. Inside the chest was a cache of silver weapons: a silver dagger & a quiver of silver arrows. On both the sheath & the quiver there was an eagle over a fleur-de-lys w/ some runes written below. I went over to Gileegan & offered him the secret I had brought w/ me, a vial of healing that Brother Lennox had given me. Gileegan drank half of it, feeling much better. Gileegan & Devedos decided to have Link adventure out front & Link seemed honored, we moved out & up a new passage from the room moving west untul we entered another clearing, this time the room was basically bare except for a tall, white stone in the center. The stone was pointed at top & wide & smooth @ it's base. Devedos moved around it a bit but we decided to move on, traveling into a north tunnel then turning northwest we came to a southern corridor - we traveled down it & eventually moved into a small clearing cave room, Link moving the lantern about to reveal silver & gold tossed about the floor in splotches. Happily, we collected the coins & then moved on up out of the other side of the room coming to another tunnel which led us for some time to the NW - eventually coming to a choice, either NW or E, we turned east, soon coming to a south passage into an opening - entering the opening, we found a sizable room filled w/ lush plant life, as if stepping into a jungle... No insects or animals or noises for that matter were about, it was completely still... After searching around the plants a bit, Devedos located 4 green mushrooms w/ white dots. He broke off a small piece & ate it. He said he felt radiant for a a few seconds. He pulled up the mushrooms & we moved back out the room, turning east where again we moved south into another room, this room bigger than any we'd seen, stalagmites about, as we moved down into the large cave room, we noticed someone there, a man @ a table, who greeted us... "Hello travelers," he said. "Can I offer you any of my items? What is it you seek?" I couldnt hold it in, asking if he happen to possess a diamond spider. "Why yes," the man said, "I believe I do have the spider you speak of." He leaned down behind the table. I couldnt believe it, my heart was in my throat. "How much?" asked Devedos. "How much do you carry?" said the merchant, "I believe it will take all that you have, this is a pricey piece." The merchant held up the spider & placed it on the table. Everyone held their breath. I wanted to run up & hold it in joy. But then Gileegan & Devedos began whispering, & then Gileegan stepped forward, "something is strange here, how did you come to gain this spider?" Devedos added, "No, we arent giving up any coin for this, I dont like this." It is then that suddenly, the merchant was no longer there. Disappeared. My heart fell into my toes. What is this place? I thought, where merchants disappear & jungles grow under the earth? We moved back out into the main tunnel & moved east where we soon came into a smallish opening & saw a number of men sitting about... 5 of them... they were surprised to see us enter, & here began the most dreadful part of our adventure. Though we were the ones to leave the cave w/ our lives intact, the five bandits were slaughtered, Link was badly wounded, & we did not find the spider, only more gold coin. Rushing, using Devedos memory, we retraced our steps out of the caves & got back to the Church around 10:00 PM. We brought Link inside & finding Brother Lennox we had him healed; we then moved to the Inn of the Forgotten Worm to split up the treasures we had found.

PARTY CAST:
Gileegan, hobbit thief - MN
Devedos, monk - RM
Renfro the Regarded, magic-user - JT
Mattie the Mournful, cleric of the White Widow - NPC
Link, neanderthal - NPC

ENCOUNTERED NON-PARTY NPCs:
Iggy - barkeep @ the Forgotten Worm
Clara - young girl w/ dying dog named Joey
Mystery - Clara's mother
Cleatus Jeffers - veterinarian
Oogy - owner of curiosity shop
Gil Kruger - blacksmith/armorer

Having returned from caves late @ night the party divides the booty. Renfro gets the silver dagger & Gileegan the silver arrows. All retire for night, Mattie returns to Church of the White Widow.

Next morn, Devedos is watchful out front of Inn, watching the folk of Moor's End begin their day. He takes interest in a young girl carrying a dog up to the building next door. Clara tells of her sick dog, Joey, & soon Devedos is chatting w/ the veterenarian, Dr. Jeffers, about what he uses (herbs) to heal Joey & how often he comes in (once a month - takes a week for him to get better, etc) & asks what Joey eats (turnips & watermelon) & after vet, Devedos gathers the others (Gileegan & Renfro were now outside eyeing Oogy next door the other way who was smoking a pipe, Gileegan was talking about those "orc grenades" & his interest in them - Link is still alseep as his sleep is way off having lately been nocturnal on Horror Hill) & they follow Clara to her home which is a shack up NE from the Inn. There the party meets her mother, Mystery. Devedos examines the small garden plot they have. Strangely, here in the spring, when things should be growing, most of the garden is already dug & gone, minus a few turnips... Looking around, he sees the same in other plots nearby. Mystery tells them a story that her husband, Cujo, has told her: that out @ a farm one day not long ago, a number of men were trying to pull up a giant carrot from the earth, next thing they knew, one of their number was missing & they saw some legs & shoes disappear into the carrot like it had gobbled the man up. Devedos wants to investigate. They leave in search of Randy's Farm where Cujo is currently working. Mystery doesnt know how to get there (Cujo changes farms often).
Party decides to inquire about Randy's Farm @ the last establishment to the east of town as they walk from Clara's home. The establishment is a blacksmith's shop & armory. The owner, Gil Kruger proves to be an S.O.B. & the party clashes a bit w/ him in regard to their questioning. Irritated they take their leave & head back through the shacks up to the Church of the White Widow where Mattie rejoins the party. She thanks them again for the contribution she was able to make to the Church & her refreshed hope in locating the diamond spider. She spent the morning praying for Cure Light Wounds to aid in their adventuring. They head back to the Forgotten Worm Inn, only to find Kruger inside, inhaling his lunch while cutting it up w/ Iggy, the barkeep. Devedos is still hell bent on finding info about Randy's Farm, whereas Gileegan is now urging that their task lie elsewhere, as in, heading back to the caves... Iggy tells Gileegan that it is believed that Orcs of the Black Hole are building up forces in the caves & may soon threaten Moor's End. Seeing Renfro, Kruger asks if he's seen the librarian. He says there's a librarian in town who's known to have some of the oldest known books in all of Furthermoor. Renfro tries buying Kruger a drink to learn more but Kruger refuses & becomes an ass again. Devedos becomes highly irritated & after he's had enough, challenges Kruger to a duel.

Out front of the Forgotten Worm Inn, first, Renfro approached Kruger & tried to sneakily cast Charm Person upon him; however, Kruger just brushed him off, not sure what he was up to. Devedos & Kruger then went @ it. At first, Kruger blunders & Devedos is able to take advantage by dealing some significant blows to Kruger & then, Devedos w/ an impressive kick, not only rids Kruger of his two-handed sword, Delilah, but also, in struggling w/ it, the blade cuts into Kruger & does him damage as well, the blade flying to the ground 3 feet away, Kruger jumps for it... In a crucial moment, Devedos misses Kruger, Kruger pulling Delilah back up, Devedos chops again, but misses & then turns to feel Delilah slicing through his guts. Devedos falls into the dust, dead... Mattie begins sobbing & running over, falls over Devedos. Kruger wipes off Delilah, & injured, stumbles back up & into the Forgotten Worm, yelling.

Leaving Mattie w/ Devedos' body, Gileegan & Renfro quickly work out a plan & running across the street, they work their way behind a number of establishments until they get to Kruger's shop. They end up running around & trying the front door, which is locked, but Gileegan successfully picks it w/o any problem. They move in & relock the door. They search the place locating Kruger's bedroom & behind that the forge room w/ a window. They stake out in the bedroom, waiting. About 45 minutes later they hear Kruger unlocking the front door & stumbling in, tossing stuff onto the table in the main room. Before long he comes pushing the door to the bedroom open & before he even has any idea, Gileegan has backstabbed him w/ a dagger into the doors of death. Renfro & Gileegan find a key on his body that opens a chest near his bed. The chest contains 72 gold, 800 silver & 2 potion vials. They move into the forge room & stoke the forge & then lay out some cloth from Kruger's bedding to start a fire which will trail down & burn the place down... Gileegan moves out of the window & races to the Church of the White Widow. Renfro moves back toward the front door & grabs Delilah...he wraps the two-handed sword in cloth from the bed & then follows out the window, wrapping back around & then crossing the street, back toward the Forgotten Worm. Mattie is still out there in the street, though no longer crying, watching over Devedos. Every now & then, passersby will stop & inquire what happened. They dont seem surprised when they hear that Kruger is involved.

Before long, smoke can be seen on the eastern edge of Moor's End, twisting up from the back of Kruger's shop...

5:00 PM, Thursday, 14th day of the month of the Hummingbird, Moor's End, Furthermoor
